Jamestown Unveils New Affordable Housing Pilot
June 23, 2025
A new housing pilot, 2 Hammett Court, has opened in Jamestown, providing 12 affordable and accessible apartments for individuals and families with low to moderate incomes, including those with physical or intellectual/developmental disabilities. This innovative project, a partnership between Looking Upwards and SWAP, involved the adaptive reuse of an existing commercial building. It was funded with $1.8 million from Building Homes RI and $3.5 million from the RI Rebounds Production Fund, made available through a program created by Senator Jack Reed. The apartments, which require income qualification and are affordable up to 80% AMI, feature open floor plans, elevator access, and a community room, with two units fully accessible and others adaptable. The initiative has been widely praised by state and federal officials, including Governor Dan McKee and Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, for addressing Rhode Island's pressing need for affordable and inclusive housing options.
