Beam Signing for Mixed-Use Building; 41 New Affordable Apartments on Former Blighted Lot
April 24, 2026
SWAP marked a major construction milestone with a beam signing ceremony at 1077 Westminster Street in Providence's West End. The $21 million, five-story mixed-use building will deliver 41 100% affordable apartments — including one-, two-, and three-bedroom units — serving households earning between 30–80% of area median income, with up to nine units dedicated to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in partnership with West Bay.
The ceremony drew Governor Dan McKee, Mayor Brett Smiley, City Council President Rachel Miller, council members, state legislators, funders, and neighbors. Architects from Union Studio and members of the Stand Construction team also took the opportunity to sign the beams. The project replaces a long-blighted lot at 321 Knight Street and includes ground-floor commercial and nonprofit community space. Construction is expected to be completed in May 2027.
