# SWAP Inc. > SWAP Inc. (Stop Wasting Abandoned Property) is a Providence, Rhode Island nonprofit that has been developing affordable housing and revitalizing urban neighborhoods since 1975. As a 501(c)(3), SWAP provides affordable homeownership and rental opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents, with a focus on Providence's South Side. SWAP was founded in 1975 by Providence residents responding to urban blight and neighborhood deterioration. Through an early homesteading program, SWAP facilitated over 1,000 residential renovations.
